The Pattern

Pattern is worked in a spiral. Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of each round.

R1: Make a loose slip knot, ch 1. Put 5 sc into the loose slip knot and make a color change to the new color in the last stitch. Pull on the tail end to close the hole. =5

R2: *sc, 2dc, ch 1, sl st in the next stitch. Repeat from the star 4 times. Do not sl st to the next stitch the 4th time, sl st in the same stitch. = 5 petals

R3: ch 2, dc into the next stitch, sc into the next 3 stitches. *dc into the next 2 stitches, sc into the next 3 stitches. Repeat from the star around. = 25

R4: *2sc, sc into the next 4 stitches. Repeat from the star around. =30

R5: *2sc, sc into the next 5 stitches. Repeat from the star around. =35
R6-R9: sc into each stitch around. =35

R10: *inv sc dec, sc into the next 3 stitches. Repeat from the star around. =28

R11: *inv sc dec, sc into the next 2 stitches. Repeat from the star around. =21

Weave in the tail ends, but leave the working yarn untouched. Turn the ball right side out.
Regular ball: Start stuffing the ball firmly.
Cat toy with bell: Put a jingle bell into a plastic easter egg and tape it closed. Put a small amount of stuffing into the bottom of the ball. Add the easter egg.

R12: *inv sc dec, sc into the next stitch. Repeat from the star around. =14

Regular ball: Stuff the ball until it is firm and round.
Cat toy with bell: Add more stuffing around the egg.

R13: *inv sc dec. Repeat from the star around. =7

Add more stuffing if needed. Cut the yarn leaving a tail long enough to thread through the remaining stitches and weave in. Pull the yarn through the last stitch and thread through a darning needle. Thread through the front loops of the remaining stitches. Pull on the tail end to close the hole. Weave in the end.

The End!
